Peter Pan's Flight
A popular dark ride from day one, Peter Pan's Flight in Fantasyland at Disneyland stands out for two reasons. It consistently sees long wait times from the park's opening til closing, and it uses a ride vehicle and track system that was unique in 1955 and remains a fan-favorite to this day.
Interesting architectural elements include wood ornamentation surrounding the clock faces, herringbone brick pattern in the clock tower mid-section, flower pot shelves on the second storey windows over the queue and loading area, and two distinct copper weather vanes: Captain Hook's pirate ship atop the clock tower and Hook's nemesis crocodile atop the hexagonal queue roof.

Using a new 92 page set of 1982-83 Fantasyland Renovation blueprints, I am building all of the Fantasyland dark ride exteriors. I chose Peter Pan at random and am looking forward to how the entire Mr. Toad to Pinocchio area looks like in 3D.

The Peter Pan tower rises. Added the clock and the surprisingly difficult 'S' curve decos. The railing was just a matter of basic math: dividing out the length of the balcony and then adjusting the width of a single panel and using a horizontal array to check the midpoint before adding a symmetry modifier along the X axis and then the Y axis. Windows now have glass, and I added the top element of the signage.

Roof and steeple with pointed decos added to both. Roof is a modified octagon trimmed with a detailed molding.

Getting ready to build out the waiting queue, I pieced together several elevations and then colored them so that major elements would stand out.

A screenshot of the progress on the queue line. Gives you an idea of how we use texture/photo mapped planes to help with the modeling process. A detailed elevation and floor plan go a long way!

Working more on the queue line. The nearby trees always put this area in shadow so it is a bit tough to find decent photos. The heart shaped cutout railing on this should look pretty sweet!

Added the queue line heart railing, a slightly different version of the railing on top of the entrance tower, and lamps hanging from the queue line posts.

This dormer window is above the main Peter Pan ride queue line. I decided to see how quickly this could be modeled in SketchUp as opposed to 3dsMax.

Took me a minute to realize what I was modeling, but this piece is sandwiched in between Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Peter Pan's Flight. I believe is it the exit for Peter Pan.

With a newborn in one hand, I exported the Peter Pan's Flight show building from 3dStudioMax and imported into SketchUp Pro. Looks like I have some segmentation to clean up. The export/import process is never perfect.

Most of the cleanup work has been done. Now back to modeling! Will probably jump into creating the roof and green-walled 2nd floor facade over the straight queue line area.
